Unit 1
Make the everyday calculation clear
Refresh place value and the operations behind a quantity. Use a written method when it makes a calculation easier to inspect.

- Addition & subtractionChoose addition or subtraction from the situation and explain a written calculation. Use place-value exchanges and inverse operations to check your result.

Connect fractional and decimal amounts
Revisit equivalent values and decimal places so quantities in measurements, prices, or formulas are easier to compare.

Interpret a small data set or probability statement. Check what the display shows and what the assumptions allow you to conclude.

- ProbabilityDefine an event and the possible outcomes before calculating its probability. Use fractions to describe chance and check whether successive events are independent.

Build a bridge into algebra and graphs
When the task uses an unknown or a changing relationship, revisit signs, equations, graphs, and function notation together.
- Signed numbersUse a number line to make sense of positive and negative numbers. Distinguish a value’s position from its distance from zero and explain changes in either direction.
- Linear equationsSolve a one-variable linear equation with justified steps. Keep both sides equal and check the solution in the original relationship.
